How this site makes money
Free guides still have to pay the power bill. Here is every way this site earns, so you can weigh our words with full information.
1. Affiliate links
Some product links (SEO tools, home products) are affiliate links: if you click one and buy, the vendor pays us a commission. It never changes your price. Every page with affiliate links carries a disclosure near the links, and our reviews say what a product is bad at, not just what it's good at. We don't accept payment for positive coverage, and we don't publish fake reviews — the FTC banned those in 2024 and we think the ban is right.
2. Quote requests
When you ask for quotes through a form on a cost guide, the contractor or service network that receives your request may pay us for the introduction. The consent box on the form names exactly who will receive your information before you submit — that's a legal requirement (TCPA) and we treat it as a hard rule, not a formality. One request is sold to at most one buyer.
3. Featured listings (coming)
Directory-style pages may offer paid "featured" placement to local companies. Featured spots will always be labeled Featured — a paid position, not a ranking we awarded.
What we never do
- Sell your contact information to anyone not named in the consent you gave.
- Invent prices, ratings, or reviews. Ranges on this site cite their sources.
- Let a payment change a verdict in a review or a position in an unpaid list.
